Plymouth Primary Football League
We are pleased to continue the establishment of ‘Plymouth Primary Schools Football League’ which was set up in September 2017. The league continues for its third season in 2019 - 2020. We feel a league gives children the opportunity to play regular football during the school year. We are playing the league at Goals Plymouth (Outland Road – next to Plymouth Argyle). Goals have excellent facilities, with all-weather, synthetic grass pitches, meaning there will be no issues with waterlogged pitches. This location also means schools won’t have to travel from one end of Plymouth to the other for fixtures.
We will have 10 teams in the league this year, paying an equal share to cover the pitch hire. The matches are played on Friday afternoons throughout the year. Each team will play the other teams twice throughout the year. There will be a break leading up to Christmas as well as Year 6 SATS in May 2020. The league will be played with 6-a-side teams and is open to any children up to Year 6. The fixtures and dates have been set for the entire year (September 2019 - July 2020) and these will not be changed unless there are extreme circumstances, e.g. the weather, although Goals is an all-weather facility. The first set of fixtures for this year will be played on Friday 20th September 2019.
Referees, who are students from Devonport High School for Boys, will be choosing a Player of the Match. At the end fo the season, there will be trophies awarded for the overall winning team and runners up of the league. We hope that school staff, children and parents will respect the referees and show appreciation that they are participating on a voluntary basis. As the league progresses, we will be updating the results and league table on this page. We'll also post pictures and videos from matches on the Marine Academy Plymouth Facebook page (@MarineAcademyPlymouth) and on Twitter (@MarineAcademy).
The league is now closed for entry. However, we will open this up to schools in the Summer term of 2020 for entry in the following year; all schools will be welcome to join. We are excited about the potential of this league and hope it will continue to be very successful in its third year.
