Home Learning

At Marine Academy Primary, we believe in the importance of Home Learning as a vehicle to further strengthen our relationships with Parents/Carers and for them to find out more about what their children have been learning at the Academy. We believe that Home Learning allows additional opportunities for our children to further and deepen their learning at home. Also, starting early encourages good habits and will therefore ensure that our learners are prepared for the increased expectations when transitioning to secondary school.

Children at Marine Academy Primary all have Home Learning Books which contain resources that are relevant to the children’s year groups. These include our Handwriting ditties to form letters in preparation for them to be joined, the times tables that children will learn in that year group, word lists which show the words that children will need to be able to read, spell and define and other useful resources. These can all be used to further support children’s learning at home with their Parents/Carers.

We ensure that there are a range of Home Learning activities to develop your children’s basic skills and the below table shows what children receive each week and also how the expectations increase as the children get older. Over holidays, we set Topic based projects to inspire children to find out more about the their International Primary Curriculum topic for the next term.

On the first page of the Home Learning books there is a guidance sheet providing Parents/Carers with further information about learning at home; there are PDF versions of these guidance sheets below. The tasks set for the children will always be to consolidate or extend learning and presentation expectations apply to Home Learning activities as well as their learning that they complete in the Academy.

Children’s Home Learning is marked on a weekly basis; if they have a gold star sticker this means that they have received a Golden Ticket for their learning and if there is a smiley face sticker this means that they have received a Headteacher’s Prize. Teachers will also be awarding a ‘Home Learner of the Month’ each month for those children who have shown continued dedication and effort to their Home Learning.

Parents/Carers who have any questions or queries about any Home Learning tasks are invited to contact homelearning@marineacademy.org.uk with their child’s name and class in the subject line. Photos of children learning outside of the Academy can also be sent to this email address. Parents/Carers are also encouraged, if they have any queries about Home Learning, to always see their child’s class teacher during Early Morning Learning.

Home Learning at Marine Academy Primary is always a positive experience.
